Sway is brewed inside MadTree Brewing — Cincinnati's craft beer pioneer and Ohio's only B Corp certified brewery. Here's the story behind the tree.

how it started

From a Mad Idea to Cincy's Favorite Taproom

MadTree started in a garage in 2013, when two friends who called themselves "mad scientists" decided to turn a homebrewing hobby into a real craft brewery. The name fused their scientific curiosity with a belief that trees represent life and growth — and it stuck.

The original taproom outgrew itself fast. In 2017, the team renovated an old airplane hangar in the heart of Oakley into the brewery you can visit today. Alcove opened in Over-the-Rhine in 2022, and MadTree Parks & Rec opened in Blue Ash in 2025.

That same spirit of craft and connection gave rise to Sway in 2022 — a lighter, brighter way to enjoy what MadTree does best.

Brady

A former P&G brand manager turned cabin-dwelling fly fisherman, Brady traded the corporate track for a mad scientist's dream. He still can't pick just one favorite MadTree pour — though these days he's reaching for Sway Blackberry & Hibiscus as often as the OG classics.

Kenny

A Texas transplant and former engineer, Kenny brought the discipline; Brady brought the madness. Together they've spent over a decade building spaces where Cincinnati comes together over a pint — or a can of Sway.

Happy Amber was originally going to be "Hoppy Amber" — autocorrect had other plans.
Brady & Kenny brewed PsycHOPathy more than 20 times before letting anyone else taste it.
The founders made a pact: matching MadTree tattoos once the company hit the five-year mark.
